1996 Georges Mugneret, Ruchottes Chambertin 750ml
BH92
At 20 years of age this is finally just now coming into its own as the truffle-inflected nose remains fresh yet there is good secondary development in evidence on the mostly red berry fruit and earthy aromas. There is excellent detail to the mineral-driven flavors that, like many '96s, are not particularly dense but on the plus side they are refined and this sense of elegance continues onto the balanced, lingering and delicious finale. To my taste this has arrived at its peak though it should easily hold here for years to come. By the way, there is a trace of the '96 style acidity present but it is not so prominent to detract from the overall sense of balance provided that there is an appropriate food pairing. Tasted twice in the past year with consistent results.
