Henry Frédéric Roch is the co-director and co-owner of Burgundy’s most famous vineyards and winery, the Domaine de la Romanée Conti. Interestingly he gained this job only after having set up his own winery in the 1980’s, an estate that would go on to become one of the most famous and idiosyncratic estates of the Côte de Nuits: Domaine Prieuré Roch.
The entire 11 hectares of the Domaine Prieuré Roch are farmed sustainably. Yields are comparatively low for Burgundy, as they usually lie around 30hl/h (the legal maximum for Grand Crus is 50hl/l) and intervention is kept to the bare minimum in order to preserve the natural character of the grapes. In the cellar, again, the wines are hardly touched, and are bottled unfined, unfiltered and without the addition of sulphur. This very natural approach to winemaking creates incomparably pure, clean and fresh wines that are unique in their aromatic profile.
The Domaine Prieduré Roch label The Domaine Prieduré Roch label To say these wines are not easy to find is an understatement. The wines are full of character and their ability to deliver real emotion makes them highly sought-after by collectors and wine drinkers alike. From the first hedonistic sip it is clear why these marvelous wines command high prices and have attained cult status in France.
