2020 Albert Bichot, Domaine du Pavillon, Corton, Clos des Marechaudes Grand Cru Monopole 750ml
$1,180.00
Le Corton is a lieu-dit (named section) of the Corton Grand Cru appellation in the Côte de Beaune district of Burgundy. A number of producers make red wines from the Pinot Noir grown here.
Regulations also allow for Chardonnay to be grown in Le Corton for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru designation. In practice it appears Pinot Noir is the focus here.
The 11.6 hectare (28.6 acre) vineyard lies in two thin strips divided by an access road on the very highest slopes of the Montagne de Corton, just below the tree line, at 350 meters (1,150ft). This is unusually high for a Grand Cru site.
A brief walk around the hill shows that the tree line retreats further up the hill in this area, to make the best use of this excellent terroir and southeast aspect.
In this highly exposed location, Le Corton is one the first sections of Corton to receive the warming rays of the sun every day. It is protected from adverse weather conditions by the trees immediately above.
